Sound of Dragon 《龍吟滄海》 – Lan Tung (2014)
- 1-3 soloists & chamber orchestra or intercultural orchestra or Chinese orchestra
Composed for Vancouver’s inaugural Sound of Dragon Music Festival in May 2014, Sound of Dragon starts with a phrase from a famous Chinese folk melody “Crazy Snake Dance”. Snakes are nicknamed small dragons to bring good luck. But Lan’s work quickly departs into a new world, with a touch of African rhythms and improvised solos. This piece was composed shortly after Lan’s return from a trip to Morocco.
